Starting a business can be scary but creating a logo, branding identity, and an iconic branding imaging that will turn heads is probably overwhelming. I have come up with 5 questions that you should be able to answer when you meet with me. These questions will help guide our conversation to providing you what you are looking for.
1. What are some words you would use to describe your brand?
This is important for me to understand what you see in your brand and brand identity. Come up with a list of words that you would use to describe your business. Or what do you hope your audience will feel when they see your brand and interact with it. This can help lead the conversation on what you want from me as the designer.
2. How do you prefer to communicate?
I believe that communication will become the best tool in a client to business relationship. When you request a consultation, via the link, you will receive an email asking to schedule a time to meet, this will be via Zoom. I usually prefer to contact clients via email after the initial contact. But if you want to be contacted other methods, please inform me at our meeting.
While I understand that everyone is different, some clients want a constant communication every other day while others do want to be bothered and don’t want contact until the very end. So please be honest and communicate how much you want to be involved in the process. I will respect you and involve you in the process as much as you want.
3. What is the goal for this project?
Setting goals will make it possible for me to track progress for your business and see how effective the design will be. This will help provide an objective basis for what I will create. This could look different for everyone that is why we will discuss this.
This is a good time to discuss what the timeline will be for the project. This will be a key indicator if this is something I can complete in the timeline you have created for yourself. I hope to set clear expectations of how long it will take me for any project you want. Of course, this will ultimately depend on the nature of the project and how much you want designed. Regardless of what you have done I will always want to give a quick turnaround for ideas and concepts.
4. What is your design inspiration?
When you have scheduled a consultation, I would invite you to put together a design board. This does not have to be fancy, just some images compiled together. This will help me to get an idea of what you have in mind for the business. This will help me to understand what you have in mind for the business. We can discuss what you see and in vision for the business that way I have something to go off when I start the design process. Don’t let this part scare you, I don’t ever want to waste your time or mine by creating something that you know you won’t like.
5. Who is the target audience?
As a designer, when you design for the right audience, it can help the success of your business. This will be important to know who we are trying to attract and who your audience is. This is an important question to ask yourself, and if you don’t know then we can discuss this when you schedule a consultation. This will be the key to your designs going forward.
To conclude, when looking for a designer it can be intimidating especially when you don’t know what to look for. I hope that these 5 essential questions will help to guide you in your business as we look to provide powerful designs.
